How I Define Style: Less is More

How would I define “style”? I’d say it’s the sum of the parts that matter and not just one item that sticks out.

I have a dislike for loud items that attempt to make statements on their own. Rather, I think that combining what gives someone their individual style with a subtle, beautiful piece of jewelry helps bring it all together.

I love a delicate piece of jewelry that accentuates an outfit but doesn’t necessarily scream for attention. When a woman wears the right piece, it will only add to who she is and her individual style.

As far as designers go, I love Fiorentini + Baker shoes; they are made so well and only get better with age. I think they look amazing on almost anyone.

As for my own personal taste on style; I think natural and understated is beautiful. A great pair of jeans, a flowy top and a fab necklace like my stick pendant (below).

Pair it with an incredible Helmut Lang bag and you’re good to go….

Happy Holidays!

Inspiration from Mom: My Turn to Give Something Back

I lost my mother to breast cancer several years ago and still feel the pain of that deep loss. I keep Mom in my heart through my jewelry collection, BRI HANA, and through a commitment to the Desert Breast Institute (DBI).

For every piece of jewelry sold, BRI HANA donates a portion of the proceeds to DBI. The nonprofit is involved in ground breaking research and is considered one of the leading centers in the country for treating breast cancer.

DBI founder Dr. Phillip Bretz has been on the active surgical staff (without interruption) of Eisenhower Memorial Hospital, in Rancho Mirage, California since 1979. During that tenure he has served as Chairman of the Cancer Committee and has been appointed the Field Liaison Office for the American College of Surgeons.

In 2006 Eisenhower Memorial Hospital was named one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals.

“Mom was my true inspiration for starting a jewelry line,” says Johnson. “She used to design her own pieces and could have been very successful in this industry if she had chosen to do so. I think of her every day as I work on building the BRI HANA brand. She was a courageous woman and I miss her.”

Bri Hana Jewelry – Custom Crafted for a Modern World

My dream of a modern, organic jewelry line is now a reality as we introduce the first collection from Bri Hana Jewelry — a one of a kind, custom crafted collection of bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces.

Named for my two children, Bri Hana is a reflection of my personality and fashion sensibility. Our designs incorporate modern flair with a subtle femininity and a passion for natural stones.

I was raised by a very stylish French mother and an entrepreneurial American father, so I got the best of both worlds. Mom was always creating her own looks and was especially fond of unique jewelry.

From a young age, I wanted to follow in her footsteps. She’s no longer with us, but my Mom was and still is my inspiration. I have been designing jewelry for many years and am thrilled to finally have a collection I can call my own.

Each Bri Hana piece is stamped and handcrafted in the U.S., an additional source of pride for me. I use only the finest natural stones in an effort to give my pieces a raw, natural look. And because we design here in L.A., I am able to create new pieces on a regular basis and have them ready for market in a matter of a couple of weeks.

Our stones include agate, black and white diamonds, natural turquoise, natural corral and amethyst, among others. We use only the finest 14k gold.

Bri Hana price points range from about $75-500. The blue lace Druzy agate ring – a signature piece – retails for $190. An exquisite, all gold, customized version is $1250.
